Here we list the most common issues with the Video Enhancer feature. We also provide solutions to the issues.

Color Banding

Color banding, or posterization is an ugly artifact that can be seen in digital images. It’s most often visible in a gradient between two similar colors. Banding refers to the visible change from one color to another instead of a smooth, fading gradient.

You’re most likely to see color banding in gradient backgrounds you create for your renderings or in photographs, natural gradients like skies are prime for color banding.

The image below is an excellent example of color banding. Banding is clearly visible in the sky.

How to fix?

To avoid banding we recommend using the highest Encoding quality setting possible -> Lossless. You can also try the Ultra setting if you're concerned about the file size.

The encoding quality dropdown is located in the Advanced section on the AI filter selection page.

Enhanced video won't play in the video player

There are two possible reasons why the file won't play.

Reason one: Missing decoder codecs

Your video player must have certain decoder codecs installed in order to play enhanced videos. Sometimes videos don't have them and the video won't play.

The solution depends on the video player you're using. You have to install codecs for H264 and H265 formats for the video player.

Installing codecs can sometimes be complicated, so we recommend that you use one of the video players that already support these codecs. Here is a list of free players that we tried:

  • VLC (Video Lan Player)

Reason two: the computer isn't powerful enough to play video

This happens rarely today as most modern computers and phones are powerful enough to play even 4K videos.

If you have an older computer or phone, the problem could be in the resolution of the enhanced video. Playing high-resolution videos can be hard for less powerful computers, so try to reduce the output resolution of enhanced videos.

You can do this by selecting a lower Resize setting in the Advanced Section:

Full HD [1080p] should still give you good quality, while it won't be problematic to play as the resolution is much lower than 4K.

You can also use any other video editing software to reduce the video resolution even after enhancing it using TensorPix. We recommend Handbrake because it's free and easy to use.
